THEME: “Particulate Drug Delivery System: Advancement and Opportunities as Potential Drug Carriers”.
Goals:
The National Pharmacy Workshop (NPW) 2021 aimed to deliver an outstanding program for various types of particulate drug delivery system like nanoparticles, liposome, niosomes, phytosome, ethiosomes, resealed RBCs, carbon particles etc. During the workshop, composition, preparation and application required in order to achieve better and targeted drug release were discussed.
Scope of the workshop:
- This workshop is designed to attract scientific leaders from the following arenas:
- Particulate drug delivery systems
- Preparation of particulate drug delivery systems
- Advancement and opportunities as potential drug carriers
- Importance and application of nanotechnology in particulate drug delivery systems
- Particulate drug delivery systems of phyto-constituents.
- Development of particulate drug delivery systems for major health areas such as Diabetes, CVD, Cancer, Malaria, Obesity, etc.
Outcomes of the workshop:
After participating in this workshop, attendees should be able to
- Discuss the basics, advancements, and opportunities of particulate drug delivery systems. Differentiate among particulate drug delivery systems.
- Understand the different properties of drug, excipients to develop particulate drug delivery systems.
- Discuss emerging trends and challenges in particulate drug delivery systems. Development of new and novel particulate drug delivery systems.
- Development of herbal particulate drug delivery systems.
Summary:
The workshop commenced by an introduction of the workshop and a high-level overview of the assessment framework, delivered by Dr. Esra Bayrakdar (Head of Department), Dr. Abdul Samad Salahuddin (TIU President), Dr. Duran Kala, Dean of Pharmacy respectively. Presenters walked through key components of the Drug Delivery System in depth, focusing on the aspects of the bioavailability of poorly soluble drugs and the use of Drug Carriers techniques, which is different from current methods, as part of efficacy improvement processes.
Dr. Sharad Visht Assistant Professor, Faculty of Pharmacy, Tishk International University, Erbil, KRG, Iraq, provided a presentation on “Advancement and Opportunities in Particulate Drug Delivery System”.
Dr. M. Javed Naim Assistant Professor, Faculty of Pharmacy, Tishk International University, Erbil, KRG, Iraq delivered a presentation on “Design and Synthesis of Anti-diabetic Medication for Particulate Drug Delivery System”.
Dr. Rozhan Arif Muhammed, Assistant Lecturer, Faculty of Pharmacy, Tishk International University, Erbil, KRG, Iraq presented on “Role of Fast Dissolving Tablets in Herbal Drug delivery”.
Dr. Ahmad H. Ibrahim Lecturer, Faculty of Pharmacy, Tishk International University, Erbil, KRG, Iraq, shared a presentation on “CRISPR-Cas9 in Between Gene Therapy and Drug Delivery”.
Finally, Dr. Esra Bayrakdar (Head of Department), expressed gratitude and appreciation to the workshop organizers, speakers, and to all who participated in the event.
To conclude, the workshop committee members solicited feedback from participants on the usefulness of the presentations delivered as training tools and how they could benefit organizations beyond other agencies. Overall, the group agreed that such presentations as used in the workshop would be valuable assets to future trainings on Drug Delivery System for both Tishk International University and other organizations.
Workshop Participants:
Over 200 people registered for the workshop and approximately 170 attended the morning sessions. Participants represented several of both domestic and international sectors including government, research centers and both private and public universities.
