On February 2nd, 2020, Dr. Hawraman Ali, Lecturer at the Department of International Relations and Diplomacy of TIU, presented a seminar to the members of the Faculty of Administrative Sciences and Economy. The seminar discussed the topic of ‘the right of self-determination in international law’.

Dr. Ali explained what self-determination implies and what is the latest debate surrounding the subject. He examined the UN Charter and other international documents pertaining to the subject, in addition to judicial cases decided upon by the International Court of Justice. Other legal aspects such as the notion of respect for the territorial integrity of states were also reviewed, together with the link between this and the right of peoples to self-determination.

This was part of a weekly internal seminar series held by the faculty for its academic staff, which presents a unique opportunity for academics to share knowledge and to engage in academic discussions.
