The academic debate was one of the most remarkable activities in the 2nd nanotechnology National workshop. Recently, two researchers groups are working on water purification using nanomaterials; researchers explored their recent works and shared their research findings.

It has been known that the demand on clean water is increasing day by day and in contrast to this, the amount of safe, clean and fresh water is steadily decreasing because of various types of pollutants. Nowadays pure water has become more important than before. Nanotechnology provides promising methods to purify water from contaminants and in water softening.

Some of the prominent properties that make nanomaterials effective for water treatment are:

  • Increasing surface area
  • Decreasing volume
  • Longer stability and durability
  • Making chemical and biological reactions easier

The first group’s topic was entitled “Water Purification Using Green Synthesis Nanoparticles”. The researchers were Asst. Prof. Dr. Azeez Barzinjy, Asst. Prof. Dr. Samir M. and Asst. Prof. Dr. Haidar J. Ismail from Salahaddin, Tishk International and Soran universities. Dr. Wala Gazey Dizayee was the session chair.

While the second group’s topic was entitled “Water purification by Nanofibers using Electro-spinning Technique”. The researchers were Asst. Prof. Dr. Manaf A. Mohammad, Dr Ibtisam A. Saeed and Mrs. Suhad A. Yasin from Duhok University. Asst. Prof. Dr. Samir Mustafa was the session chair.

The presentations and findings of the researchers took

great attention from the participants. At the end of each presentation, questions from participants were also intensively discussed.
