The Architecture Department of Tishk International University has been preparing for the NICE competition on its third cycle for the past two months in order to be awarded with the top prizes as the past two cycles of the competition.
On the 16th of May, 2017, the awaited day had finally arrived, and the third cycle of NICE competition was finally here. The 3rd edition of the competition was themed and titled as (Targeting Smart Sustainable Innovations).
The competition had a variety of projects from a different university, with more than a 100 participating projects that was presented by around 300 students from different fields of study such as Architecture, Interior Design, Civil Engineering, IT, and Computer Engineering that had come from most of the Kurdistan’s institutes and universities; such as our very own, Tishk International University, Salahaddin University, Cihan University, Duhok University, Erbil Polytechnic University, Hawler Medical University, Kirkuk University, Lebanese French University, and the University of Kurdistan – Hawler, Have all come together to compete for the winning prizes with their innovative projects, designs and inventions.
The Head of Board of Trustees of Tishk International university started the competition with an opening speech that welcomed the guests and clarified the importance of this competition for the educational community in Kurdistan Region. Later, as the participants started placing and showing their projects to the jury and visitors, The Head of Architecture Department, Ms. Soma Manmi, anzd the rest of the academics that were jury members, toured around the exhibited projects. The promising innovative designs of Tishk International University students, by the direct supervision of the department were a tough competition for the other participants.
As expected, Tishk International University’s Architecture Department collected two prizes of the top three winning awards of the NICE competition, the winning first prize, and the third prize. The Department is very proud of the work its students and academics are putting in to harvest awards and national competitions, and this aims the beginning of a promising future for the young generation of architects that have studied at Tishk International University.
