Tishk International University Hosts 7th National Pharmacy Workshop on Dermatology and Cosmetics

The 7th National Pharmacy Workshop, themed “Dermatology and Cosmetics in Pharmacy,” was hosted by the Faculty of Pharmacy at Tishk International University (TIU) in collaboration with Bioclin and Rilastil Company on November 23rd, 2023. The opening address was delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Idris Hadi, the Head of the Board of Trustees, who extended a warm welcome and stated his appreciation to faculty members for the activities they have been doing since the beginning of this year with wishing to continue in these programs and beneficial activities. Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Assistant Professor Dr. Abdulsamad Salahuddin, provided a comprehensive speech, setting the tone for the workshop. Dr. Abdulsamad talked about the importance of dermo cosmetics and how this topic turned to be one of the most popular and interesting fields in pharmaceutical side and community. Meanwhile this is also giving importance to the research fields of formulation development and research area of Pharmaceutics with dermatology scientists.

The first session started with a presentation by the Dermatologist Dr. Amina Haji, focusing on the treatment of acne scars and pigmentation. She also spoke about the steps of treatment and how to manage the case using instrument. The second presentation was given by Pharmacist Dr. Reem Noori followed with insights on skincare practices and guidance. She discussed about the skin types and how to treat and prevent them from UV damage and also about the causes of UV damage and consequence of not using sunscreen and how to manage practically with creams. In addition, skincare routine for each skin type was discussed and how to use for each type. In a subsequent session, Assistant Professor Dr. Sharad Visht focused on the topic of toxic chemicals in cosmetics, while Dr. Qutaiba gave a brief information of each product and area of these products that are used.

The workshop concluded with a closing address from Dr. Esra Tariq, the Head of the Pharmacy Department, congratulated the organizing committee for the success of the workshop summarizing the key insights from the day’s discussions. She expressed her appreciation to the speakers of the workshop, and sponsor of the workshop. Certificates were awarded to the speakers, sponsors, and the organizing committee, recognizing their contributions. This workshop served as a valuable platform for expanding knowledge in dermatology, skincare, and cosmetics, underscoring the university’s along with its partners, to the advancement of pharmacy education.
