Faculty of Engineering Hosts Seminar on The Engineer’s Role in the Community

On May 8th, 2024, the Faculty of Engineering at Tishk International University (TIU) hosted a  seminar titled, “The Engineer’s Role in the Community”, blending education with global sustainability by hosting the seminar. Engineer Salahadin Zandi, Vice President of the Engineering Syndicate of Kurdistan, delivered an effective speech at the event. He enthusiastically discussed the convergence of engineering methodologies and their positive impacts on society, drawing parallels to Sustainable Development Goals such as Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure (SDG 9).

Senior engineering students attended the seminar in large numbers, fostering a lively and interactive environment. Students participated actively, posing inquiries with great enthusiasm and expressing their perspectives regarding the ways in which engineers can assume leadership roles within their communities and make contributions to the development of sustainable cities and communities. This engaged participation demonstrated the students’ dedication to not only acquiring knowledge but also meaningfully applying it.

One of the seminar’s most moving moments occurred when Engineer Zandi was presented with a plaque of appreciation, which recognised his influential presentation and unwavering commitment to fostering the development of future engineers. This action promoted Quality Education by emphasising the personal connections and appreciation that enrich academic exchanges.

After the thought-provoking dialogues, the seminar came to a reviving coffee break. This relaxed assembly served as more than a momentary respite; rather, it was a lively networking opportunity where faculty and students discussed and shared insights on community leadership and sustainable development. It embodied the spirit of Partnerships for the Goals.

By directly contributing to the SDGs, this seminar not only enhanced the academic journey of the students but also deepened their comprehension of their responsibilities as future agents of change in the field of engineering. Tishk International University’s faculty is enthusiastic about organising additional events of this nature, as their ongoing objective is to motivate and prepare students for the forthcoming opportunities and challenges.
