Civil Engineering Department at TIU Strengthens International Collaboration for Earthquake Mitigation in Iraq

On 31st of July, a meeting was held in the office of the Vice President at Tishk International University with Dr. Mehmed Ozdemir, Vice President and Head of Civil Engineering Department Dr. Barham Haidar in attendance where they discussed the project “Towards Earthquake Mitigation in Iraq: EMS-98 Adopted Vulnerability Assessment of Existing Buildings” under “Ta’ziz Partnership – Short-Term Measures 2024” which is funded by German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).

Among those involved are Bauhaus University Weimar, Tishk International University and University of Sulaimani who jointly undertake this initiative. The meeting acknowledged Mr. Halmat Muslih from among faculty members representing Tishk International University where he will go on one month research stay at Bauhaus University Weimar as part of faculty exchange program.

Moreover, five more faculty members and students from Civil Engineering Department will visit Bauhaus University Weimar on August 15th and participate in Bauhaus Summer School for specialized training/workshops related to the project which is expected to take two weeks thereby equipping individuals with necessary skills thus contributing more success towards its realization.

This is the second time that Department of Civil Engineering secures DAAD grant together with Bauhaus University Weimar; such cooperation reflects their commitment towards internationalization as well advancement of research activities within vulnerable areas like earthquakes at the Civil Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering at Tishk International University (TIU). We hope all participants have a good time while in Germany and we also expect positive results out this important venture.
