TIU hosts joint project presentation between the Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Applied Sciences- Project AIRON

During the University Council meeting, chaired by President of TIU Professor Sultan T. Abu-Orabi, Assist. Prof. Dr. Abubakar M. Ashir presented an innovative project proposal, titled, Project AIRON (Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Ontology), which aims to position the university as a leading research institution in artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics.

The presentation detailed the ambitious objectives of Project AIRON, including the development of a humanoid AI robot and integrating advanced AI capabilities tailored to empower Kurdish-speaking communities. This project is structured across three core units: AIRON Lab, AIRON Hub, and AIRON Sorani, each with a specific focus contributing to the overall goal.

Dr. Taha Baheer Taha and Mr. Holan, both integral members of the project team, followed Dr. Ashir’s presentation with brief remarks emphasizing the importance of Project AIRON. They urged the Council to support the initiative, which promises to bring academic and technological advancements to the region.

The university’s president commended the team for their forward-thinking proposal and lauded their commitment to innovation and academic excellence. Members of the Council engaged actively by asking insightful questions about the project’s feasibility and scope, reflecting their keen interest in supporting the initiative.

In addition to the successful presentation of Project AIRON, Assist. Prof. Dr. Abubakar M. Ashir received an appreciation letter from the President. This recognition celebrated his exceptional mentorship of Mr. Holan in his graduation project, which was honoured as the *Best Project* at the 25th Innovative Student Forum event, organized by the Arab Committee for Student Training and Innovation and hosted by Tishk International University in collaboration with Salahuddin University of Erbil (SUE), showcased outstanding projects from across the Arab region, with 50 students from 20 universities competing in 7 countries.
