Tishk International University (TIU) recently sent a senior delegation to Italy on a successful academic mission. This visit, which aimed to promote international academic collaboration, was coordinated by the Kurdistan-Italy Friendship Association.

The distinguished delegation included Assist. Prof. Dr. Idris Hadi Saleh, Head of the Board of Trustees at TIU, and Prof. Dr. Sultan T. Abu-Orabi, President of TIU. Also in attendance were the presidents of Hawler Medical University and the Lebanese French University, as well as the Vice President of Salahaddin University.

On July 21, 2025, the delegation was warmly received at the Università del Piemonte Orientale (UPO). A key highlight of the day was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between TIU and UPO. This agreement will set the stage for a new academic partnership, including staff and student exchange programs, joint research, and shared academic activities. The delegation also toured the university’s faculties and research centers, where they saw its advanced infrastructure.

On the next day, the delegation proceeded to the University of Pavia (UNIPV), one of Italy’s most prestigious institutions. They were welcomed by Prof. Dr. Francesco Svelto. Discussions focused on deepening academic relations through potential exchange programs, joint conferences, and collaborative research projects. Plans for a future Memorandum of Understanding between TIU and UNIPV were also outlined.

In addition to these strategic discussions, the delegation explored scholarship opportunities for TIU students in English-medium Master’s programs. Both UPO and UNIPV showed a strong willingness to offer support, and detailed frameworks are currently being developed.

Finally, the visit marks a significant step forward in TIU’s mission to build strong academic networks abroad. By forming strategic partnerships with leading European institutions, TIU is continuing to enhance its global engagement and improve academic excellence, research output, and student opportunities.
