On Wednesday, December 17, 2025, Tishk International University proudly commemorated Kurdistan Flag Day through a meaningful and well-organized event led by the Dean of Students. The celebration brought together students, academic staff, and university leadership to honor Kurdish identity, history, and shared values.

The Kurdish flag, a powerful symbol of unity and pride, carries deep meaning for the Kurdish people. At its center shines the “Roj”, a golden sun with 21 rays, symbolizing renewal, hope, and resilience. The flag’s colors tell a powerful story: red represents sacrifice and the struggle for freedom, green reflects Kurdistan’s natural beauty, yellow symbolizes energy and hope, and white stands for peace and equality. These values closely align with global principles of justice, equality, and sustainable development.

The program was skillfully hosted by Mr. Shazad Hassan, a student from the Computer Education Department. The ceremony featured inspiring speeches from university leaders. Dr. Idris Hadi, Head of the Board of Trustees, delivered a thoughtful address highlighting the historical and cultural significance of the Kurdistan flag. Following him, Dr. Sultan Abu-Orabi, President of the University, reflected on the importance of Kurdistan Flag Day and its role in strengthening identity, unity, and mutual respect within the academic community. Representing the students, Mr. Muhammed Zrar, Faculty Representative and Law student, gave a heartfelt speech that resonated strongly with the audience.

The event also celebrated student creativity and talent. The Music Club performed national songs that inspired pride and unity, while the Art Club presented expressive paintings that reflected the spirit and symbolism of the Kurdish flag. One of the most memorable moments of the day was the ceremonial raising of the Kurdistan flag in front of the university’s main building, a moment filled with dignity, respect, and collective pride.

In addition, a photo booth with a traditional Kurdish background was set up, allowing participants to take photos in traditional Kurdish clothing, further enriching the cultural atmosphere of the celebration.

Overall, the Kurdistan Flag Day celebration was a vibrant combination of education, culture, art, and community engagement. It reflected Tishk International University’s commitment to inclusive education, cultural awareness, peace, and values. Events like this play a vital role in fostering unity, strengthening identity, and preparing students to become responsible global citizens.
