What is the TIU English Proficiency Test?
CONTENT OF THE EXAM
The exam follows a format similar to the Cambridge Proficiency and Baccalaureate (Wezary) English exams.
To prepare, it is strongly recommended to study Cambridge Proficiency Examination 1 & 2 and Sunrise 12 as reference books.
The exam consists of five sections, with a total time of 90 minutes.

Admission Regulations to Tishk International University
ENGLISH PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENTS
- The candidate must meet all the requirements set by the Ministry of Higher Education and Research of Kurdistan.
- Since the language of instruction at Tishk International University is English, the following conditions apply to first-year students:
A – International English Test Results
The candidate must provide an original and internationally accepted English test result showing the minimum required score:

B – Exemption from the English Proficiency Exam
Students are exempt from the university’s English Proficiency Exam only if they have graduated from one of the approved schools listed below.
To receive this exemption, the student must:
- Provide a graduation document issued by their school administrations,
- Submit this document to the Language Preparatory School of Tishk International University.

C – TIU English Proficiency Test
If the candidate does not have one of the accepted international certificates or is not a graduate of the listed schools, they must take TIU English Proficiency Test.
What is the TIU English Proficiency Test?
TIU ENGLISH PROFICIENCY TEST
- Description
TIU English Proficiency Test is an internationally standardized exam that measures the student’s English language skills.
It includes the following language skills: Speaking, Reading, Writing, and Listening.
- TIU English Proficiency Test Evaluation Criteria
The exam evaluates students’ language abilities based on the following percentage weights:

- Application Process
- The exam is free of charge.
- Students can apply for the exam at the Student Affairs Department of the university, where they can obtain the exam admit card, which contains the date, time, and exam hall details.
- Exam Results
- Exam results are prepared and announced by the Language Preparatory School within 3 days after the exam.
- Students can receive their results from office 123 in Education Building.
Evaluation of the Proficiency Exam
After the TIU English Proficiency Test, students are placed according to their results as follows:

| Passed | 50 – 100 | The student can move to the first year of their faculty and is not required to take the Foundation English (non-technical elective) course. |
| Failed | Below 50 | The student must study the Foundation English (non-technical elective) course for two semesters during with regular faculty studies. |
Additional Notes
- The Foundation English (non-technical elective) is a 2-credit course that must normally be taken by all first-year students whose English proficiency is not satisfactory, and it is studied for two semesters.
- The total proficiency score is based on the weighted results of Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking skills.
- Exam results are final and officially announced by the Language Preparatory School.
