International Symposium on Urban Water Management in Cities

In collaboration with the Gdansk University of Technology-Poland, TIU organized an international symposium entitled “Urban Water Management in Cities” under the theme of “Low Impact Development”, held on the 15th of December 2021.

The opening ceremony was commenced by Dr. Idris Hadi, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Tishk International University, in which he explained the TIU system, and extended his appreciation to the organizing committee of the event, partner university, and experts who participated in the symposium. This was followed by a speech delivered by Professor Dr. Michał Szydłowski, where he introduced Gdansk University of Technology, emphasizing that both universities are willing to further collaborate and work together to improve the quality of education and international relations.

The aim of this event is to gather researchers, professors, practitioners, engineers, decision-makers within the context of this topic, in order to discuss the current issue of the region and propose required water management solutions such as flood control, charging groundwater, water supply, and sewerage systems in the city of Erbil, Kurdistan.

The second aim of the event was to disseminate research findings and provide a platform for scholars to debate and exchange ideas about the policies and technological aspects that can be applied to water management in urban areas.

TIU and Gdansk University of Technology would like to thank all prospective presenters for their valuable contributions that brought new perspectives on solution-oriented for the current issues regards of water management in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. One of the main contributions of the event to Kurdistan includes the techniques of the low impact development in designing the infrastructures of cities for controlling the flood and recharging the groundwater.
