On February 4, 2025, Tishk International University (TIU) successfully organized a National Workshop. It was held on World Cancer Day. The event was titled “Shield Your Cells: Food as Prevention.” TIU’s Faculty of Applied Science hosted the workshop. This was done in collaboration with the Nutrition and Dietetics Department and the Medical Technical Radiology Department.
TIU President, Prof. Dr. Sultan T. Abu-Orabi, inaugurated the workshop. He welcomed the guests. He also emphasized the university’s role in promoting research on cancer prevention. Notable attendees included Prof. Dr. Abdulqadir Naqshbandi, President of Lebanese French University (LFU). Distinguished faculty from Hawler Medical University (HMU) were also present.
The workshop featured three key speakers:
- Dr. Rewan Hussein Hasan, a General Surgeon from HMU, highlighted crucial aspects. These included early detection, lifestyle changes, and diet in cancer prevention.
- Prof. Dr. Jalal Ali Jalal, a Pathologist from HMU, explained vital connections. He discussed how cellular mutations, environmental factors, and nutrition affect cancer development.
- Prof. Dr. Sherzad Ali, an expert Nutritionist from HMU, provided practical dietary recommendations. He also discussed the role of anti-cancer foods in boosting immunity and reducing risks.
The event concluded with an interactive Q&A session. Students, faculty, and healthcare professionals participated. They discussed integrating nutrition into preventive healthcare strategies. Ultimately, the workshop reinforced the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration. This is vital for combating cancer and promoting healthier lifestyles.
