The 10th edition of the National Innovation Competition in Engineering (NICE2025) was successfully held at Tishk International University (TIU) on Sunday, May 11, 2025. This event marked a decade of commitment to fostering student innovation, academic collaboration, and interdisciplinary excellence.

What began ten years ago as a local academic initiative has evolved into a nationally recognized competition. It now showcases the region’s brightest engineering and design talents. NICE2025 stands as a symbol of academic growth, technological creativity, and institutional unity.

Growing Impact and Participation

This milestone year saw the competition reach new heights, with:

  • Over 300 student projects submitted.
  • 253 accepted for final presentation and evaluation.
  • Nearly 600 registered members, including 248 supervisors and 117 jurors. Of these, 100 actively participated in the assessment process.

These figures reflect the growing scale and reputation of the competition across academic and professional communities.

Strong Interdisciplinary Contributions

Projects were submitted across a wide range of departments, including:

  • Computer Engineering
  • Architecture
  • Interior Design
  • Mechatronics
  • Petroleum and Mining Engineering
  • Civil Engineering
  • Information Technology
  • Aviation Engineering

The diversity and depth of these projects reflect the technical capabilities, creativity, and dedication of students and staff across disciplines.

Regional Collaboration

NICE2025 brought together delegations from over 15 universities and institutes across the Kurdistan Region and Iraq. This reinforced its role as a unifying academic platform.

Major contributors included Tishk International University (Erbil), with 174 projects. Additional universities across the region participated actively, highlighting the spirit of collaboration and a shared commitment to innovation.

Awarding Excellence

This year, three winners were selected from each of the eight competition categories, recognizing a total of 24 innovative projects for their outstanding contributions.

To celebrate their achievements, the winners were awarded:

  • 8 Lenovo laptops
  • 8 tablets
  • 8 smartphones

Furthermore, certificates of appreciation and participation were distributed to all participating universities, honoring their continued support and engagement.
