Moderated by Mr. Dana Sajadi, speakers Prof. Dr. Ahmet Arabaci and Mr. Bayad Sarwar Abdullah examined gender-based violence as a human rights violation rooted in unequal power dynamics. On March 7th, Tishk International University’s Faculty of Pharmacy hosted an event celebrating International Women’s Day, underscoring the importance of gender equality. Dean Dr. Abdulsamad emphasized women’s vital roles in society and recognized their empowerment on campus. Dr. Esra Tariq highlighted Islamic teachings that support women’s contributions to families and communities, reinforcing the need for upliftment. Dr. Rozhan Arif acknowledged the complementary roles of men and women, advocating for harmony in communities. The event concluded with a shared celebration, embodying the principles of equality and respect. This initiative directly contributed to SDG 5, promoting gender equality and empowering all individuals.

Spearheaded by Prof. Dr. Tavga Abas Albastani and Ms. Lana Luqman Mustafa, the workshop examined the legal frameworks addressing family violence, highlighting the disproportionate impact on women. Asst. Prof. Dr. Hussein Balisani affirmed the faculty’s commitment to advancing gender equality and fostering a deeper understanding of domestic violence, reinforcing the university’s role in promoting a comprehensive education that advocates for women’s rights and protection.

TIU Nursing Department Promotes Gender Equality on International Women’s Day
In alignment with SDG 5—Gender Equality, the Nursing Department at Tishk International University (TIU) organized a special event on March 7, 2024, to celebrate women’s achievements and advocate for their empowerment. Hosted by Ms. Shaimaa Shahab, the event featured Dr. Srwa Rostam’s presentation, “The Status of Women in Islam,” highlighting the contributions of influential women such as Khadija and Fatimah. Discussions emphasized women’s empowerment, equal opportunities, and respect for women’s rights based on the Prophet’s (PBUH) teachings. The celebration concluded with a symbolic cake-cutting ceremony, reinforcing TIU’s commitment to gender equality, inclusion, and empowerment.
