Sustainable Design Project Earns Global Recognition
Two fourth-year Architecture Engineering students from Tishk International University – Sulaimani (TIUS) were shortlisted among the top 10 projects at the Valeria Morabito Award Competition, held from May 21–24, 2024, in Reggio Calabria, Italy.
Their project, titled “Sustainable Living Spaces for Fishermen Using Recycled Plastic from Darbandikhan Lake,” was supervised by Dr. Sardar Sulaiman, Head of the Interior Design Department. The initiative exemplifies the core values of SDG 12, integrating sustainable design principles, recycled materials, and community-oriented solutions.
By transforming environmental waste into functional and eco-friendly housing, the project showcases how student-led innovation can address real-world challenges and promote responsible consumption practices.
