Students and Experts Unite to Celebrate International Astronomy Day at TIU

Students at Tishk International University marked International Astronomy Day with a captivating event organized by the Physics Education Department, Faculty of Education, on October 29, 2023. International Astronomy Day is a special occasion that allows astronomy enthusiasts, students, and experts to share their knowledge and passion for the cosmos with the wider public.

The event had a dual purpose: to introduce students to the wonders of astronomy and to set up three astronomical telescopes in front of the Faculty of Education. These telescopes allowed attendees to observe the sun’s surface and its various activities, such as sunspots, solar flares, and solar prominence.

The Physics Education Department extended a warm invitation to Mr. Azhy Chato Hasan and Mr. Harem Omar Kakil from the Kurdistan Astronomical Organization. These experts shared their valuable experiences and insights, enriching the event and providing students with a deeper understanding of the universe. Additionally, one of TIU’s own students, Mr. Muhammed Abdulaziz, contributed to the event by bringing his personal telescope, adding an extra layer of excitement and engagement.

The success of this event was made possible by the diligent supervision of Asst. Prof. Dr. Ismail Musa, who ensured that everything ran smoothly and that students had the opportunity to learn and celebrate the wonders of astronomy. The event was not only an educational experience but also a celebration of the vast mysteries of the cosmos, inspiring a new generation of stargazers and astronomers.
