The Faculty of Law at Tishk International University (TIU) successfully organized the 9th International Legal Issues Conference (ILIC 9). This event took place on February 27, 2025, in Erbil. It brought together distinguished legal scholars, researchers, and professionals from across the region.

This year’s conference showcased an impressive 64 research papers. These papers covered diverse areas of law. Academics from universities in the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, Jordan, Morocco, Algeria, Egypt, Libya, and Saudi Arabia presented their work. All accepted papers will be published. They will appear in the official conference proceedings, available on the event’s dedicated website.

The opening ceremony was held on TIU’s campus. It featured remarks from several prominent figures, including:

  • Prof. Dr. Abdulfattah Abdulrazaq, Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research
  • Assist. Prof. Dr. Idris Hadi, Chairman of the Board of Trustees at TIU
  • Prof. Dr. Sultan T. Abu-Orabi, President of TIU
  • Assist. Prof. Dr. Hussein Balisani, Dean of the Faculty of Law

Adding to the significance of the event, keynote speeches were delivered by:

  • Prof. Dr. Abdel Naser Mousa Abu Elbasal, Former Jordanian Minister
  • Assist. Prof. Dr. Ghazi Khaled Abu-Orabi, Lecturer at Saudi universities
  • Assist. Prof. Dr. Muhammed Omer Mawlood, Former member of the Kurdistan Region Court of Appeal
  • Assist. Dr. Abdulbasit Kareem, Former Iraqi Minister of Commerce

The conference attracted wide attention. Researchers, legal experts, and guests from various institutions participated. Faculty members and administrative staff from TIU’s Faculty of Law were also in attendance. Their presence contributed to the event’s success and extensive media coverage.

Following the opening session, researchers presented their work. This created a dynamic platform for academic dialogue and future collaboration. Building on the success of ILIC 9, the Faculty of Law is already preparing for the 10th International Legal Issues Conference. This reaffirms TIU’s commitment to advancing legal scholarship and fostering international academic partnerships.
