In order to make knowledge and information accessible to everyone, Tishk International University, Faculty of Education holds its annual conference on Educational Sciences and Applied Linguistics in collaboration with the University of Salahaddin, College of Education. The International Visible Conference aims to gather researchers, practitioners, educators, and scholars with interests in any field of teaching at all levels from around the world. The VESAL 2021 conference is designed to attract the research communities to promote connections between theory and practice and explore different perspectives on the application of research findings into different practices. We kindly welcome scholars from international and local regions, as well as teachers and prospective teachers to Erbil, Iraq. The VESAL 2021 conference aims to contribute to the region and educators through international experts and researchers. The VESAL 2021 conference plans to remain open to educational studies, language teaching and/or language-education related topics broadly defined, looking more closely into the current dynamics in the world between old and new trends, local and global tendencies, progressive and conservative views, stabilization and destabilization patterns, national and global identities. It is expected that VESAL 2021 conference will be a magnet for a significant number of front-ranking academics, professionals and policy makers working in the broad areas of Education.

The conference aims to develop highly qualified individuals who will contribute to the future of the country by making utmost use of the knowledge gained in fields of science, technology, and arts in the light of universal values; offer learning opportunities in the fields of research, education and service for the benefit of the wider community.

Keynote Speakers:

1. Peter Lucantoni has had a long career in English language teaching, teacher training, and management, in Europe and the Middle East, and is now based in Cyprus. He is the author and co-author of a range of popular coursebooks for students, including Cambridge IGCSE English as a Second Language, and Introduction to English as a Second Language, both published by Cambridge University Press. Peter is Educational Services Manager for Cambridge University Press and regularly speaks at ELT conferences and trains teachers internationally in both the public and private sectors.

2. John P. Portelli is a Professor in the Department of Social Justice Education, OISE, University of Toronto. He has taught at McGill University, Dalhousie University and Mount St. Vincent University. He has authored, co-authored and co-edited 22 books. His major research studies are inter-disciplinary in nature combining philosophical work with empirical studies and focusing on educational pedagogy, policy and leadership from an equity and social justice perspective. He has delivered keynote addresses in North America, Europe, the Maghreb, and the Middle East and Gulf States. Besides his academic work, he has published several literary works including four bilingual collections of poetry, a collection of poems in Maltese, an edited anthology of contemporary Maltese poetry, two collections of short stories.
