Tishk International University (TIU) proudly participated in the 10th International Conference and Workshop on Basic and Applied Sciences (ICOWOBAS 2025). Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) hosted the event in Johor Bahru from May 5 to 7, 2025. Held under the theme “Innovative Science for a Smarter & Sustainable Future,” this prestigious gathering united researchers, academic leaders, and professionals globally. They exchanged knowledge and fostered interdisciplinary collaboration.

TIU was represented by a distinguished delegation. Asst. Prof. Dr. Idris Hadi Salih, Head of the Board of Trustees, and Prof. Dr. Sultan Abu-Orabi, President of the University, led the group. Their active engagement highlighted TIU’s ongoing commitment to strengthening international academic partnerships and promoting scientific advancement across borders.

During the conference, Prof. Dr. Abu-Orabi delivered a keynote address. He spoke alongside globally recognized experts, including Datuk Prof. Ulung Dr. Harith Ahmad of Universiti Malaya and Dr. Iqbal Shamsudheen of PETCO Trading Labuan Company Ltd. These keynote presentations addressed critical issues in advanced photonics and sustainable development. They set the stage for thought-provoking discussions and future collaboration. Asst. Prof. Dr. Idris Hadi also addressed the audience. He stressed the importance of strategic academic cooperation between institutions in the Middle East and Southeast Asia. He advocated for innovation-driven alliances to address global challenges.

Tishk International University’s involvement included meaningful academic and strategic contributions. Seven TIU faculty members presented original research papers across various scientific disciplines. This demonstrated the university’s growing research capabilities. The delegation also actively participated in the interdisciplinary pre-conference workshop held on May 5. This provided an intensive platform for scientific training and collaboration.

As part of the conference activities, the TIU delegation visited the Innovation Centre in Agritechnology for Advanced Bioprocessing (ICA) at UTM’s Pagoh Campus. Prof. Dr. Hesham A. El-Enshasy hosted the visit. It offered valuable insights into cutting-edge research and technological innovation in bioprocessing.

A significant outcome of TIU’s participation was the signing of two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs). The first was established with Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. It aims to enhance cooperation in joint research projects, graduate student exchange programs, and co-supervision initiatives. The second MoU, signed with Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM), further expanded TIU’s international academic network. This opened new avenues for collaboration.

Following the main conference, additional activities were held on May 8 and 9. These included the International Interdisciplinary Computational Workshop (IICW2025) and an advanced Python-based AI training session. These sessions introduced participants to modern research tools. They covered automatic differentiation and AI integration using platforms like PyTorch and Hugging Face. This aligns with ICOWOBAS’s mission to equip scholars with technological expertise for complex, real-world challenges.

Tishk International University’s participation in ICOWOBAS 2025 not only reaffirmed its position. It is a dynamic contributor to the global scientific community. It also strengthened its vision of fostering impactful, innovation-driven education and research. The collaborations initiated during the conference are expected to yield long-term benefits for the university’s academic development. They will also enhance its role in addressing pressing international scientific and educational priorities.
