International Women’s Day Panel Discussion

Across the world, International Women’s Day is annually celebrated on March 8th to pay tribute to women and acknowledge the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements they have accomplished.

Accordingly, the Dean of Students (DOS) organized a panel for this important day, and it was celebrated at Tishk International University with great enthusiasm and sincerity. Our panelists were Dr. Shukrya Rasoul, Writer & Lecturer, Dr. Viyan Sabri, Head of PDK in Iraq Parliament, Dr. Galawezh Obed, Member of Kurdistan Parliament, and Mrs. Chiman Hama, Representative of Ethnic and Religious Component.

The panel aimed to provide a platform to exchange ideas and experiences on women’s achievements and issues in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. Additionally, the participants discussed the development of gender equality and women’s rights in Kurdistan. The panel also reviewed the current status of women and the breakthrough in gender equality in employment and how women are actively contributing to the development of our society.

Suggestions on how to promote women’s empowerment and encourage other women to explore their abilities and exceed the boundaries set by society and culture. Further to this, the panel highlighted the need to develop solutions to the current issues and advised on protection policies and support campaigns to confront the existing and potential obstacles that hinder women’s development in Kurdistan.

This event marked the significance of gender equality which was a dominating talking point during the panel discussion. TIU aims to continue assisting in the development of women’s achievements in the region and hopes to collaborate with national and international institutions to raise awareness on women’s empowerment and work against gender-based violence and inequality.

On behalf of Tishk International University, we wish a happy Women’s Day to our staff and extend our deepest and sincere gratitude to all our wonderful ladies for the contributions they have made in making TIU a better place. Celebrating this day reminds us of all of the responsibility that lies on our shoulders to forge a gender-equal world and protect the women in our society against gender-based violence.
