Tishk International University (TIU) held a special ceremony to honor two important milestones: the 125th anniversary of Kurdish journalism and the 7th anniversary of the Shayan journalism project. The event included presentations of several articles and topics related to journalism. The staff of Shayan magazine, along with various writers and journalists, received certificates and awards of appreciation.

Shayan magazine, a general seasonal publication, is considered a prominent journalistic activity of Tishk International University – Erbil. Each year, the magazine commemorates Kurdish Journalism Day (April 22) with related events. This year’s celebration, marking both anniversaries, was well-attended. Notable guests included members of the university’s Board of Trustees, professors, students, media professionals, and well-known journalists and writers from Kurdistan, alongside the Shayan magazine team.

The ceremony began with a welcoming speech by Dr. Idris Hadi Salih, Head of the Board of Trustees at TIU and patron of Shayan magazine. Following this, Salar Osman, Head of the Media Office of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, extended congratulations to the university and all Kurdish journalists and media professionals. The final guest speech was delivered by Azad Hama Amin, Head of the Kurdistan Journalists Syndicate. He emphasized the significance of Shayan magazine and the vital role of electronic and widely consumed Kurdish media.

Later in the ceremony, Ms. Hero Ismail Aref, Editor-in-Chief of Shayan, highlighted the essential contributions to the magazine. She acknowledged university professors, students, and external writers and journalists for their ongoing support through published articles. She also introduced a guest speaker.

Writer and journalist Brehim Ali, the guest panelist, gave a detailed talk. He discussed the importance and value of producing a publication like Shayan at TIU. He noted the magazine successfully includes contributions from university members and external writers. It publishes articles in three languages: Kurdish, Arabic, and English. He praised the project as both significant and demanding. As a regular reader, he commended its content and the dedicated efforts behind the publication.

At the event’s conclusion, special awards and certificates of appreciation were presented. Recipients included various writers, journalists, Shayan staff, and contributors to the magazine.
