German Delegation Visits TIU

A delegation of German professors and students, led by Professor Julia Schnitzer, from Brandenburg University of Applied Sciences, visited Tishk International University (TIU) on April 29th and 30th, 2024. Their visit aimed at a fact-finding mission for the Project Innovation Hub, funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) within the Taziz Sciences Program.

The delegation’s first day began with a warm welcome event hosted by TIU officials. Following the event, a comprehensive campus tour was organized to introduce the university’s departments, units, and facilities to the guests. To provide a deeper understanding of Erbil’s rich history and culture, the delegation then embarked on a visit to the Erbil Museum and Citadel of Erbil.

The second day focused on fostering collaboration and planning for the future funding programs by DAAD and EU. TIU officials and the German professors convened for a meeting to discuss new funding programs and the application process especially preparations for Erasmus+ Program. The delegation also met with representatives from the Kurdistan Region’s Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to introduce the project team and initiate the application process for capacity building in higher education. The Ministry expressed their welcoming approach and pledged full support throughout the application stage.

While the professors engaged in discussions, TIU students had the opportunity to participate in a workshop facilitated by their German counterparts. This workshop likely fostered knowledge exchange and cultural understanding between the student groups. All students embarked on a scenic hiking trip to the Akre Province (Newroz celebration landmark), further enriching their Kurdistan’s nature experience.

This productive visit by the German delegation signifies a promising step forward for the Project Innovation Hub Program. The collaboration between TIU and German institutions, supported by DAAD funding, has the potential to drive innovation and progress within the Taziz Sciences program. The project’s success will likely depend on the collaborative efforts of both parties and the continued support from the Kurdistan Region’s Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
