Tishk International University (TIU) participated in the Seminar on Rail Transit Building and Operation Management for Belt and Road Partner Countries, which successfully concluded on July 23, 2026, in Chengdu, China.

The international seminar was organized by the Academy for International Business Officials (AIBO) under the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China (MOFCOM), in cooperation with Southwest Jiaotong University. The two-week program brought together officials, academics, engineers, and transportation professionals from six countries, including Iraq, Brazil, Zambia, Panama, Jordan, and Nigeria, to exchange knowledge and experiences in rail transit development, infrastructure management, intelligent transportation systems, and sustainable transportation solutions.

Dr. Safwan Mawlood Hussein, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Tishk International University, participated in the seminar as one of the seven members of the Iraqi delegation, representing TIU in this important international program. The seminar provided participants with valuable insights into railway planning and design, construction management, operation and maintenance, safety supervision, project investment, and China’s advanced rail transit technologies.

Throughout the program, participants attended specialized lectures delivered by experts and academics, engaged in professional discussions, and visited key facilities to gain practical understanding of modern railway systems and their management.

As part of the closing ceremony, Dr. Hussein was selected to deliver the Closing Ceremony Speech on behalf of all participating representatives and officials. In his speech, he expressed sincere appreciation to the Ministry of Commerce of China (MOFCOM), AIBO, Southwest Jiaotong University, professors, organizers, and supporting staff for their outstanding efforts in organizing the seminar and providing an excellent platform for international knowledge exchange and cooperation.

Dr. Hussein emphasized the importance of strengthening collaboration among Belt and Road partner countries and highlighted the role of education, innovation, and international cooperation in advancing sustainable transportation and infrastructure development.

The participation of Tishk International University in this international seminar reflects TIU’s commitment to expanding global partnerships, promoting academic and professional exchange, and contributing to the development of future-oriented engineering and transportation solutions.
