Tishk International University is pleased to announce its participation as an Associated Partner from Iraq in the SINTACT Project – Social Innovation Methods and Tools for Communities Affected by Transition(s), an international research initiative funded by the European Union under the Horizon Europe Programme – Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Staff Exchanges.

The SINTACT project, under Grant Agreement No. 101234185, runs from 1 September 2025 to 31 August 2029, with an overall budget of €951,900. The project is coordinated by Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”, Bulgaria, and brings together universities, research institutions, and social enterprises from Europe, Asia, and North Africa.

SINTACT aims to develop innovative social innovation methods and tools to support communities and regions undergoing economic, social, and environmental transitions. Particular attention is given to the challenges associated with the transition toward a green economy, including employment, energy poverty, social vulnerability, institutional mechanisms, and the impact of transition on different groups within society.

As part of the project, Tishk International University contributes to international research, knowledge exchange, and collaborative activities, with particular involvement in Work Package 2. TIU researchers will contribute to studying green-transition risks, institutional mechanisms, stakeholder roles and responsibilities, and monitoring and evaluation systems.

The participating researchers from Tishk International University are:

• Prof. Dr. Ayad Alquraishi – Project Leader and Senior Researcher, Task 2.1: Study green-transition risks.
• Dr. Pishtiwan Akram Hama Rashid – Senior Researcher, Task 2.2: Study institutional mechanisms for green transition.
• Mr. Dana Shamsaddin Mohammedsharif – Senior Researcher, Task 2.3: Study roles and responsibilities in collaborations.
• Asst. Prof. Dr. Wasfi Kahwachi – Post-Doctoral Researcher, Task 2.3: Analyze monitoring and evaluation systems.

Through staff exchanges and collaborative research activities, TIU researchers will work with international consortium partners, exchange expertise, and contribute an Iraqi perspective to comparative research on social innovation and green transition.

The project covers Bulgaria, Romania, the United Kingdom, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Iraq, Japan, and Morocco, providing a broad international framework for examining transition-related challenges across different social, economic, and institutional contexts.

TIU’s participation in SINTACT reflects the University’s commitment to strengthening international research collaboration, knowledge exchange, sustainability-oriented research, and engagement in European and global research initiatives. Through this partnership, the University seeks to expand its international research network and contribute to evidence-based approaches addressing the social and economic dimensions of green transition.
